Cities, dominated by concrete and asphalt, retain heat and create ‘urban heat islands’ that can be up to 5°C warmer than surrounding suburbs. Planting gardens—both at ground level and on rooftops—not only provides attractive spaces for relaxation and enjoyment, but also helps cool the city by reducing ambient temperatures and enhancing the visual appeal of urban environments.
